For this assignment in my Digital Technology for the School Librarian course, we were asked to create a short “Video Explainer” to teach someone how to do something in a clear and helpful way. I decided to focus on a topic that’s especially useful for parents and caregivers during the summer months: how to find “summer reading lists for elementary students” online.

In my video, I demonstrate how to perform a focused search that brings up reputable sources, like library or school websites, rather than personal blogs or unverified lists. Knowing how to quickly locate high-quality book recommendations can help families encourage reading at home while avoiding frustration or unreliable sources.

Check out my video below to see the steps in action and explore a few example sites I reviewed!

Hello Thereasa, I enjoyed watching your tutorial on summer reading lists. It’s important to encourage summer reading to continue building those skills. For the searches you found ALA is of course one of the most trusted site when it comes to reading. I feel like that site could be useful for adults to help search for books for their child to find new books for them to read in the summer. The next sites you reviewed I can see children being able to access this website on their own to find a wide range of books. Great tutorial!
